Dr. Paul Pavlidis

Dr. Pavlidis’ research lies at the intersection of bioinformatics and neuroscience. His current focus is on the analysis of gene expression microarray data as well as other genomics and high-throughput data using meta-analytical frameworks.

Dr. Wyeth Wasserman
University of British Columbia, Centre for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics, Child & Family Research Institute

Dr. Wasserman’s group’s research focuses on the identification and characterization of regulatory sequences controlling the activity of genes. Human cells respond to diverse stimuli by altering the activity of their genes. And subtle alterations of the regulatory network can produce dramatic phenotypic consequences. Over time the group has developed software for the study of how genes are regulated, and applied this knowledge to advance biomedical research.

Their work falls into three overlapping categories: 1) prediction of functional regulatory regions in gene sequences; 2) prediction of regulatory mechanisms responsible for the co-expression of genes; and 3) identification of genetic sequence variation likely to result in altered rates of gene transcription.
